‘A good science fiction story should be able to predict not the automobile but the traffic jam.’ – Frederick Pohl
Find a part of a story or an idea that’s been troubling you for some time. Rather than search for a clever or interesting way to resolve the scene take ten minutes to free-write a ridiculous chain of events. No one will see this but you so give yourself permission to get a little crazy.
10-15 minutes, no edits.
After only a couple days I have found that once I’ve started to actually freewrite the ten minute timer is a little short. I am going to keep the project at ten minutes because that seems more manageable on a busy schedule but I am going to extend my personal limit to fifteen minutes.
