<image:title>About | Narrative Roots Therapy | Portland, OR - My Philosophy & Approach</image:title>
<image:caption>Rarely does our culture provide for us the framework to process and understand our emotions and ourselves; this stifled emotion can hinder our ability to find meaning in our lives and often manifests as depression, anxiety, and other painful realities. I will give you the space to access new ways of understanding your story and connecting to yourself by bringing awareness to your emotional experience. Often our emotions speak to us through our bodies and I may also work with you to tune into your body in order to further understand yourself. I tend to think about our experiences of relationships through attachment theory, which means that as human beings, we are wired for emotional connection but so often we aren’t given the tools we need to access the connection we crave. We will work together to understand and process how the wounds of your past are impacting the present and help you to discover new ways of connecting that can begin to heal those wounds. The philosophies of existential-humanistic and narrative therapies are woven into my work as a therapist. I practice narrative therapy, experiential therapy, and emotionally focused therapy. I also integrate techniques from internal family systems (IFS), somatic therapy, mindfulness, and other therapeutic modalities in order to best fit your needs. As a marriage, couple, and family therapist, I think about individuals, families, and relationships as interconnected with each other and with a larger social context. I believe that we are all products of our experiences and we may need to work through the ways that we learned about the world and about ourselves in order to find self-acceptance. This might look like deconstructing narratives related to race, gender, size, sexuality, or ability, or processing inherited scripts from your family of origin or society. I aim to create a space with you that allows for honest and authentic self-discovery. I am a sex- and body-positive clinician and I operate from a place of unconditional positive regard for my clients.</image:caption>
